Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer believes that holding the national elections in 2022 is uncertain if the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
“If the surge of COVID-19 cases continues what kind of approach will be applied? How will the physical distance be imposed? It remains to be seen,” Ferrer said.
He said the elections now depend on the approach and measures being taken by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
As of the moment, registration of voters continues and Ferrer believes that this is a likely indication that the polls will still push through as scheduled.
Based on the Comelec’s calendar of activities for the May 9, 2022 national and local elections, the last day of filing of applications for voter’s registration is on September 30, 2021.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for all elected positions will begin on October 1 and will last until October 8.
