Philadelphia 76ers displayed its full arsenal as it walloped Washington Wizards, 120-95, in Game 2 of the NBA Eastern Conference first round playoffs on Wednesday night (Thursday in the Philippines) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Ben Simmons recovered from a subpar offense in Game 1 with 22 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists, while Joel Embiid added 22 markers for the 76ers.
Tobias Harris contributed 19 points and nine rebounds, while Fukuan Korkmaz and rookie Tyrese Maxey had 13 and 10 markers, respectively, as the 76ers surged to a 2-0 edge in the series.
Trailing 14-13, the 76ers jumpstarted its rampage with consecutive points from Simmons for a 35-24 lead. The Wizards rallied back to within 57-63 but baskets from Embiid and George Hill gave Philadelphia a 71-57 halftime edge.
The 76ers maintained the double-digit advantage in the second half on conversions by Embiid and Simmons as the lead reached its largest at 120-93 on a basket by Paul Reed.
Bradley Beal top-scored with 33 points, Daniel Gafford and Rui Hachimura had 11 markers each, while Russell Westbrook and Ish Smith ended up with 10 each for the Wizards.
Meanwhile, New York Knicks leaned on a strong second half rally to turn back Atlanta Hawks, 101-92, in Game 2 of their NBA Eastern Conference first round playoffs series.
Down 49-61 early in the third quarter, the Knicks went on a strong surge behind RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, Derrick Rose, and Reggie Bullock to take an 88-78 lead.
The Hawks responded with a run to tie the count at 91-all but the Knicks went on a finishing run on a two pointer by Rose, a triple by Bullock and inside hits by Taj Gibson and Randle for a 100-91 lead.
Rose finished the match with 26 points, while Bullock and Randle added 15 markers apiece as the Knicks tie the best-of-seven first round playoffs series at 1-1./ASC, WDJ
