Eight persons were arrested after they were caught engaging in an illegal cockfight in Barangay San Juan, Sipaway island in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Police Captain Roger Pama, deputy police chief of San Carlos City Police Station, identified the arrested as Wennie Dela Torre, Joy Orcajada, Paquito Llado, Abel Montenegro, Guillermo Rigor, Wilton Yu, Noe Rigor, and Carmela Rigor, all residents of the said city.

Police recovered four live fighting cocks, four gaffs and scabbard, and suspected gambling money amounting to P700.

Aside from the illegal gambling charges, the eight could also face additional charges involving Republic Act 11332, or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act, as they also allegedly violated social gathering guidelines./DGB, WDJ
