Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday affirmed that the number of active COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental is starting to decline.

For two weeks, the province had been experiencing triple digit cases a day. However, over the last few days the province saw a slight reduction in new cases.

According to Lacson, as of Sunday, April 25, Negros Occidental had 122 new recoveries with 22 new COVID-19 cases.

“That is a net recovery of 100,” he said.

Lacson said they are hoping the trend will continue in the coming days and urged Negrenses to continue being vigilant and strictly follow health protocols.

As for the current four-day work week at the provincial capitol, Lacson said they will continue adopting the work scheme in the meantime until such time that the number of COVID-19 cases dropped to the level that was experienced about two and a half months ago.

The governor added they have not recorded any new cases of COVID-19 among the personnel of the provincial government.

Based on the record of the Provincial Incident Management Team on April 25, Negros Occidental has a total of 10,583 COVID-19 cases, of which 1,909 are active. The province also recorded, 8,420 recoveries and 254 deaths./DGB, WDJ
