Mayor Jerry P. Treñas had his first dose of Sinovac vaccine as a protection against coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, yesterday.

Already a senior citizen and an immunocompromised, the city mayor was administered with COVID-19 vaccine at the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSU-MC) in the presence of his doctors for diabetes, heart, allergy, among others.

“As your mayor with comorbidities and a senior citizen, I volunteered myself in this initiative to encourage more people to take their part in saving the world,” said Treñas.

The city mayor urged everyone to do their shares in protecting the community from the unseen enemy by getting vaccinated.

“Ginaagda ko gid ang tanan nga indi magkahadlok sa pagpabakuna bangod ini ang makabulig para sa aton padayun nga pag-uswag. Let us do our share and protect our loved ones and our community,” the city mayor said.

He underscored that as the father of Iloilo City, it is his responsibility to ensure that his children are safe.

“For over a year, we have been struggling to survive as lives and the economy were put at stake due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When vaccines were discovered, a glimmer of hope opened,” he added.

Treñas noted that in the past few weeks, the city government started the vaccination program for frontliners, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals as they are more susceptible to the risks of the deadly virus.

Yesterday, the vaccination continued for at least 975 target senior citizens and persons with comorbidities including barangay captains at SM City Iloilo./WDJ
