1 killed in Himamaylan City shooting

A 28-year-old man was killed in a shooting incident in Hacienda Trinitaria, Sitio Tanate in Barangay Aguisan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental around 6:20 p.m. on Monday, April 19.

Jojie Rafael, a resident of Purok 11, Sitio Tanate in the said village, sustained four gunshot wounds on the body. He was brought to the city’s Governor Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

According to Himamaylan City police investigation, the victim and his cousin Jeremy Trinidad, 18, entered the hacienda both armed with a shotgun and challenged hacienda owner Barry Michael Jose Yulo, 49, to a firefight.

Yulo told the police that Rafael and Trinidad were the first to shot him but he was not hit. He added that he returned fire hitting Rafael four times on the body.

Yulo was arrested by the responding police officers and confiscated his licensed Glock 17 .9mm pistol with one magazine loaded with nine bullets.

Police also arrested Trinidad and recovered from his possession two improvised shotguns with six shotgun shells.

As of press time, police are still investigating the incident./WDJ
