Just like any provincial athlete, it was a dream come true for Negrense sprinter Antonette Jay Aguillon to be recruited as part of the Far Eastern University’s (FEU) track and field team.
The Bacolod Tay Tung High School standout admitted that she was not expecting that she will play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) someday but is thankful to FEU for making it possible.
“Playing in Manila and in UAAP was a dream but I know then that it will be a long shot,” Aguillon told Watchmen Daily Journal yesterday. “I am thankful, however, to FEU for giving me this opportunity.”
“This is a huge blessing for me and I am very excited to join the squad,” added the 18-year-old sprinter. “I am also looking forward to improve my game there and I will do everything to help them in the UAAP.”
Aguillon had an impressive record as a track and field player for Bacolod Tay Tung having won gold medals in NOPSSCEA, Palarong Panlalawigan, Milo Little Olympics, Batang Pinoy, and National PRISAA.
Aguillon had her most memorable stint as a Taytungian in the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation Track and Field Invitational Cup in 2018 where she was hailed as MVP.
“I really learned a lot from my time with Bacolod Tay Tung, not just an athlete but also as a student which will be helpful to me when I go to FEU,” said Aguillon, who will compete for the Lady Tamaraws’ 100 and 200 meter dash, long jump and triple jump./ASC, WDJ
