A truck loaded with sugarcane ran over a man in front of a transport terminal on Rizal Street in Barangay Dos Hermanas, Talisay City in Negros Occidental around 12:27 p.m. Friday.
The victim was identified as Eden Molavin, resident of Purok Gabi in Barangay Dos Hermanas.
He was believed to be mentally unstable, according to Police Master Sergeant Michael Mcdowell, chief investigator of Talisay police station.
Molavin was crossing the street when the 6-wheeler Fuso Truck, that was travelling west of the street, ran over him, Mcdowell said.
He said Molavin died on the spot.
Footage of a closed-circuit television camera captured the incident. It showed that Molavin suddenly crossed the street while the truck was approaching.
The truck swerved to the left as if trying to avoid Molavin, to no avail, the copy of the CCTV footage also showed.
The driver of the truck identified as Ernesto Miabo, resident of Silay City in Negros Occidental, meanwhile was temporary detained at the custodial facility of the Talisay Police Station.
Miabo may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide. The body of Molavin was brought to the Manapla Funeral Homes in Silay./SG, WDJ
