Woman shot dead in Bacolod

A 29-year-old woman was declared dead-on-the-spot after she was shot by unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects in front of a popular shopping mall located along South Capitol Road in Bacolod City’s Barangay 8, Saturday night.

Police identified the fatality as Medelyn Benignos, a resident of Purok Lampirong in Bacolod City’s Barangay 2.

Police Lt. Andy Ofalia, deputy commander of Police Station 2, said Benignos came from another mall and was riding a tricycle home at the time of the incident.

Upon reaching the South Capitol Road, two gunmen on a motorcycle suddenly came aside the tricycle and opened fire at Benignos.

Two other occupants of the tricycle, the driver and his wife, managed to escape while the gunmen immediately sped away along San Juan Street heading towards the direction of the city’s downtown area.

Benignos was instantly killed after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the head.

Police recovered two fired and one slug believed to be from a .45 caliber firearm.

Investigators also believed that the victim could have already been tailed as early as when she was still at the other mall in the area prior to the shooting.

Officers of the Police Station 2 are still investigating the incident./DGB, WDJ
