A drunk driver was arrested after he allegedly fired at pursuing police officers in Toboso, Negros Occidental, late Thursday night.

Police identified the arrested as 54-year-old Edie Gumban, a resident of the town’s Proper San Isidro.

According to the Toboso Municipal Police Station, at around 10:15 p.m. they received a phone call from a concerned citizen regarding a traffic accident at the town’s Sitio Aura in Barangay San Jose.

Police immediately went to the area to confirm the report and immediately gave chase after it was determined that the vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene.

Police managed to intercept Gumban in his vehicle, however, instead of pulling over he allegedly sped away and drew his firearm at the responding cops.

One of the cops, Police Senior Master Sgt. Orlando Alob, then drew his firearm and opened fire at the vehicle’s front tire in an attempt to stop the suspect from speeding away.

Gumban’s vehicle stopped and police surrounded and arrested him on the spot.

Police recovered the suspect’s .45 caliber pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition, along with an extra magazine with eight live .45 caliber rounds.

Gumban is facing illegal possession of firearms charges. He is now detained at the Toboso Police Station./DGB, WDJ
