Iloilo province’s Mina town mayor, his wife and personal driver tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19.
Mayor Rey Grabato announced this yesterday, adding, “Positibo kami pero asymptomatic.”
The three immediately self-isolated upon learning the results of their reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test released two days earlier.
Grabato said they may have contracted the virus at a wake in a village in the town early this month.
“Ang akon suspetsa sang February 5 may napatay kami nga retired policeman nga inuglubong. Bilang mayor, obligasyon ko nga magbisita sa iya balay,” he said.
Following their positive RT-PCR results, the mayor ordered the Municipal Health Office to rollout a thorough contact tracing.
As of Wednesday, February 10, Mina had a total of 354 COVID-19 cases, of which 43 were active and 303 recovered. The town also recorded eight COVID-19 deaths./WDJ
