Six were arrested yesterday for illegal cockfighting in Barangay Napnapan, located in Iloilo province’s Tigbauan town.

Authorities identified the arrested as 34-year-old Romeo Torrevilla and 49-year-old Rene Grenade, both of Barangay Baroc, Tigbauan; and 47-year-old Antonio Calumay of Barangay Atabayan, Tigbauan; 47-year-old Benjie Trafiero; 20-year-old Joemarie Traigo; and 66-year-old Rufino Tupas, all of Barangay Baguingin, Tigbauan.

Police caught the group around 10:30 a.m. and confiscated three roosters and bet money amounting to P1,600.

The six were detained at the Tigbauan Police Station and face charges in violation of Presidential Decree 449, or the Cockfighting Law of 1974, signed by then-President Ferdinand Marcos./WDJ
