Two minors died when their motorcycle rammed a truck at KM 32, Hacienda Loreto, Barangay 13 in Victorias City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.

The victims, aging 14 and 15 years old, whose names were withheld by the police, succumbed to head injuries, according to Police Col. Eduardo Corpuz, chief of the Victorias City Police Station.

Corpuz said the minors, who were residents of the said barangay, were declared dead-on-arrival at the hospital by the attending physician.

Traffic investigation showed that the motorcycle driven by the 15-year-old boy with the 14-year-old as the backrider was travelling south of the road when they overtook a vehicle in front of them.

However, they collided to the approaching sugarcane truck and it was already too late to return to their lane, Corpuz said, adding the victims were not wearing helmets. Their motorcycle was a wreck.

The police chief added that the area of the accident was a little curved and the driver of the motorcycle might have not seen the approaching truck when he overtook a vehicle in front of them.

Corpuz reiterated that minors are not allowed to drive, unless they have a student permit and are being accompanied by a professional driver’s license-holder.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck identified as 26-year-old Vergil Susana was detained at the custodial facility of the Victorias City Police Station.

Susana was later released after the 18-hour reglementary period for his detention had lapsed with no charges filed against him, Corpuz said./SGG, WDJ
