Iloilo City gov’t commits cars, guns for city cops

Iloilo City government committed to continue providing logistics to the city’s police force.

Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director, Colonel Eric G. Dampal, said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas assured them of additional logistical assistance.

“The commitment from local government unit includes mobile patrols for six police stations and one for SWAT. There will be donations of firearms. We also requested for radios. The mayor is willing to support. We also need donation of lot for police station building. The PNP headquarters will provide for the fund,” Dampal said.

The city government earlier turned over 20 Japanese bikes for cops from an anonymous donor.

Meanwhile, ICPO’s recorded crime related incidents dropped by 33.7 percent of 6,592 cases in 2020 from 9,938 cases in 2019.

Last year, nine were charged for illegal possession of firearms.

ICPO also said that they conducted 152 operations against illegal drugs in 2020, resulting to the arrest of 213 personalities, and 166 cases were filed.

Moreover, last year’s 37 operations against illegal gambling resulted to 134 arrests.

ICPO had also issued 223 warrants of arrest with 206 arrests./WDJ
