61 LGUs in WV temporarily ban LSI arrivals

Some 61 local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas (WV) have temporarily banned the return of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) to their respective hometowns during the holidays. 

Based on the list released by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 6, the moratorium of the said LGUs which was approved by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF) against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) started second to third week of December until the first week of January 2021.

Aside from giving a break or timeout to its frontline workers during the holidays, another reason the LGUs cited for the moratorium was the quarantine facilities reaching full capacity wherein they could no longer accommodate incoming LSIs.

The province of Negros Occidental has the most number of LGUs that asked for LSI travel halt with 20. Some of these are Bago City, La Carlota City, Himamaylan City, Victorias City, Calatrava, Cauayan , Candoni, Hinigaran, Ilog, Isabela, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Pontevedra, Isabela, Sipalay City, Talisay City, and Valladolid.

Bacolod City also asked for the said moratorium.

Meanwhile, 18 LGUs in Iloilo province have temporarily halted the return of LSIs. These include its component city of Passi and the towns of Leganes, Anilao, Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Dueñas, Janiuay, Leganes, Lemery, Oton, Pavia, Pototan, San Enrique, San Joaquin, Sara, and Tigbauan.

In the province of Antique, 13 LGUs have an approved travel moratorium on LSIs: Tibao, Tobias Fornier, Sebaste, Caluya, Hamtic, Anini-y, Belison, Culasi, Patnongon, San Jose, San Remegio, Sibalom, Caluya, and Valderrama.

Capiz has six LGUs that temporarily stopped accepting LSIs which include Dumalag, Jamindan, Maayon, Panit-an, Pilar, and Sapian.

And there are four LGUs in Aklan that temporarily stopped the return of LSIs. These are Kalibo, Balete, Makato, and Malay.

Meanwhile, RIATF also approved the request of 23 LGUs in the region for moratorium of returning overseas Filipinos.

The LGUs that halted accepting ROFs for the holidays are Leganes, Dueñas, Oton, Tigbauan, San Joaquin, Badiangan, Barotac Viejo, Concepcion, Barotac Nuevo, Anilao, and Passi City in Iloilo province; La Carlota City, Himamaylan City, Bacolod City, Candoni, Valladolid, Hinigaran, and Isabela in Negros Occidental; San Jose in Antique; and Dumalag, Panitan and Maayon in Capiz./WDJ
