Brothers injured in Sipalay City hacking

Two brothers were wounded in a hacking incident around 9:30 p.m. on Monday at Sitio Tumpok, located in Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Authorities identified the victims as 35-year-old Rey Parreñas and 27-year-old Mark Anthony Parreñas, residents of the said village. Rey and Mark Anthony both sustained hack wounds on the body and head. They are currently undergoing treatment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional District Hospital in Bacolod City.

Sipalay City police investigation showed that the Parreñas brothers were drinking inside their house when they heard the suspect identified as 29-year-old Bonnen Garcia alias “Bordig” shouting outside their house, challenging Rey to a fist fight.

Armed woth a bolo, Garcia, who was drunk, first hacked Rey. Mark Anthony tried to help his older brother but he was also hacked by the suspect, police said.

Officers of the Sipalay City police station launched a manhunt operation against Garcia, who fled after the incident./WDJ
