Bacolodnon Julienne Beatriz Zapata captured a silver medal during the 2020 Smart/MVPSF Online National Taekwondo Carlos Palanca Jr. Championship held recently.

Zapata, a standout from the Bacolod City-based Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen stable, netted the runner up finish for her impressive showing in the grade school female category.
Zapata, who is from St. Scholastica’s Academy in Bacolod City, finished behind Valerie Oglayon in the category. Finishing behind Bacolodnon jin were Paul Rojas and Ilongga Ma. Glaiza Cordero.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association-backed tournament was conducted fully online. Participants of the competition were asked to record 60-second video performing at least 70 kicks and six punches.
After uploading their entries on YouTube, participants were judged by a rubric that allocated 60% to the quality and level of difficulty of the kicks, and 40% to the number of kicks successfully made./ASC, WDJ
