“There is no cause for worry for Negrenses even as coronavirus positive cases are still high in Negros Occidental,” Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Wednesday.

“Local government units are taking action,” Lacson said.

The governor pointed out that local government units (LGUs) where cases are on the rise are aware of their situation and are taking action.

“Even the National Inter-Agency Task Force has recognized this hence we remain under an modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). It also shows testing is constant,” he said.

Records of the Department of Health (DOH) regional office showed that the province has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the region.

For the last five days of October until November 1, it has the highest daily recorded new cases in the region.

For October 27, Negros Occidental had 112 confirmed positive cases, October 28 – 93 cases, October 29 – 62 cases, October 30 – 62 cases, and October 31 – 47 cases, according to the DOH.

On November 1, the province recorded 31 cases while on November 3 it had 71 cases.

During all those days, Negros Occidental topped the whole of Western Visayas.

Lacson said that the cases should remind Negrenses that COVID-19 is still present in the province.

He called on Negrenses to follow the  health protocols face masks/shields, physical distancing and hand washing./DGB, WDJ
