The Negros Occidental provincial government launched the Infographic Design Competition at the Capitol Social Hall last October 15, as part of the 2020 Multimedia Drug Education Campaign.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, board member Juvy Pepello and provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, led the launching of the competition which is a collaborative project of the provincial government and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council, in partnership with the Dangerous Drugs Board and Liga ng mga Barangay.
The competition is open to all high school and college Negrense students whose creativity and skills will innovate concepts relevant to the theme of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, “Better Knowledge for Better Care.”
All participating students will have the freedom and flexibility to identify and define anticipated problems and propose their own program, solutions, and conceptual agenda. The winning design will serve as the official infographic design of the Liga ng mga Barangay drug education materials.
Lacson said that effective communication is the critical key if we are to imprint in people’s minds the need to stay away from drugs.
“Infographics have been gaining a lot of popularity and they are an effective and creative means of presenting information. At present, the attention span of people is getting shorter. Infographics convey data and information quickly and clearly,” the governor said.
Based on the competition guidelines, all participants must be 16 to 29 years old and currently enrolled in high school or in college; only one entry is allowed for each participant; and each participant must be endorsed by their respective ABC president.
The deadline of submission of entries will be on November 5, 2020 and final judging will be on November 23 at the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center.
The awarding of winners will be on November 27 wherein the grand prize winner will receive P30,000; second prize – P20,000; and third prize – P10,000.
Consolation prizes of P5,000 each await the entries ranking fourth and fifth and all of the participating entries will receive P3,000 each and certificates.
The guidelines also stated that the office of board member Pepello will validate each entry and has the authority to approve or disapprove entries subject to compliance with the competition guidelines and requirements./WDJ
