A resident of Sitio Bautista in Escalante City’s Barangay Malasibog was shot dead by unidentified armed men around 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, in the said barangay.

Escalante City police identified the victim as 33-year-old Arjie Buenavista who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

Police said the victim was inside his house watching television when at least 10 armed men arrived and one of them called on him to come out.

Buenavista went to the terrace and sensing danger, he went back inside his house but one of the armed men shot him.

Escalante City police said the suspects then went inside Buenavista’s house and ransacked it, allegedly looking for the victim’s firearm.

The armed men later fled towards the mountainous area of Sitio Minaungka in the village.

Police recovered one empty shell of .45-caliber firearm, three empty shells of another firearm and M16 bullet in the crime scene.

Officers of the Escalante City police have yet to identify the motive in the shooting./WDJ
