Diocese of Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon yesterday announced that the diocese will be suspending the celebration of masses from August 24 to August 30.

According to Buzon, the decision is a response to the call for help made by the medical societies in Bacolod City and Negros with regard to limiting mass mobility and gatherings as concrete measures of addressing the continuing spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.

“With our hospitals critically reaching their limits, medical practitioners and service staff overwhelmed and overworked and some hospital personnel getting infected, the diocese sees it necessary to give the much needed support for frontliners and the hospitals through a gesture of sympathy of a week-long suspension of Masses,” the bishop added.

Buzon hopes that the initiative will help in limiting the movement of people, alleviate the morale of frontliners and, more importantly, heighten the awareness of people as to the seriousness of the COVID-19 situation./DGB, WDJ
