Bacolod Tay Tung High School will be unable to defend their championship this year after the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation Track and Field Invitational Cup was postponed due to ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
In a statement, the federation said the event will be suspended until further notice.
Last year, Tay Tung emerged as overall champions with MVP Hannah Jandra Delotavo winning four gold medals, along with one silver, in the secondary division.
“I am still hopeful that I can play for the last time for Tay Tung,” said the athlete who recently committed to play for De La Salle University. “I still continue to train with my sisters even if we are under community quarantine.”
Meanwhile, Antonette Jay Aguillon, who won the most medals two years, also hopes to suit up for Tay Tung one more time.
“I am very much excited,” she said. “Since we can’t train as a team, I am doing extra work every day.”/ASC, WDJ
