Local labor rights group, the General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA), is urging the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Western Visayas to conduct a massive information drive on the social amelioration program, which is comprised of a one-time P5,000 cash incentive for those impacted by the effects of the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
GAWA Secretary-General Wennie Sancho said, with businesses shut down due to a community quarantine, employers must certify the workers on their payroll in order for them to participate in the program.
He also used local government units to inform those in the informal sector, such as public utility vehicles drivers, on how to take advantage of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantage/Displaced aid package.
Sancho also suggested local government units set up labor desks to cater for workers affected by the ongoing crisis./DGB, WDJ
