Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) board member, Atty. Dino Yulo, recently advocated for planters’ groups and sugar mills and called for emergency protocols in light of the current situation surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
“We need to put preventive measures in place to avoid any scenario related to the spread of the virus, especially as we are still at the height of the milling season,” the board member explained.
He said the call came after a sugar mill in Luzon was placed on lockdown due to possible contamination.
Yulo also addressed planters’ groups.
“Take care of your workers and educate your drivers to follow the necessary protocols,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Yulo recommended sugar mills disinfect their trucks with spraying and tire baths, along with footbaths for those who need to go into the mills. He also suggested a non-contact system wherein drivers would not have to exit their vehicle./DGB, WDJ
