The Iloilo City government announced the city government has received a number of donations in an effort to combat the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
“Seeing Ilonggos help our fellow Ilonggos gives me a sign that there is hope in humanity,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. “We, as Ilonggos, are united; every Ilonggo is looking out for each other.”
The city has received numerous cash donations, including P3.5 million from Henann Group of Resorts founder Henry Chusuey, P1 million from Iloilo Supermart and the Que family, P1 million from Tony Jon of the JTS Group of Companies, P500,000 from Edgar Tiu of Imperial Appliance, among others; food donations including rice, chicken, noodles, canned goods, and fish; fuel; chlorine; bread; among other items.
Treñas said the food donations will be distributed immediately.
“Just release all the food assistance-no need for pictures,” the mayor said. “[This] food assistance came from generous Ilonggos, who are mostly my friends.”/WDJ
