The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) said criminality in the province has dropped, which they attributed to the quarantine controls imposed against the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
In a radio interview with Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) Regional Operation Division officer-in-charge, Police Lt. Colonel Adrian Acollador, said records show NOPPO has recorded around one or two criminal incidents.
He called the situation “far from the normal situation,” adding, they have not recorded any theft or hold-up cases.
Meanwhile, the number of road accidents has also drastically decreased.
Despite criminality on the downturn, police will continue usual operations such as buy-bust operations and arresting wanted individuals.
PRO-6 earlier reported, the crime rate across the region dropped by 62.31 percent.
They also believe the ongoing precautions implemented due to Covid-19 contributed to the decrease./DGB, WDJ
