Ilonggo footballer John Celiz recently joined Mendiola FC in the upcoming 2020 Philippines Football League, which is tentatively scheduled to kick off on April 18. The Barotac Nuevo native joins Tonaldo Appiah, John Macapal, JRV Malayo, Dave Deloso, and Sean Epili among the club’s new recruits.
“We have strengthened our lineup with a fine mix of standouts from the college tournaments, tough and experienced local players, and strong foreign players,” said Mendiola team manager Erwin Isla.
Both Celiz and Appiah arrived from now-defunct Green Archers United, where they led scoring for the club last season.
With Ricardo Penson as a major backer of Mendiola FC, the club is primarily composed of San Beda University alumni.
“As longtime supporters of the senior San Beda University NCAA football team, strengthening Mendiola FC provides a full growth cycle/portal for the sport and the players,” Penson explained./ASC, WDJ
