Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) personnel conducted monitoring at major retail establishments in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique to confirm compliance with rules on prices and ensure an adequate supply of basic necessities. According to DTI-Antique senior trade and industry development specialist, Engr. Lynna Joy Cardinal, additional deliveries set to arrive within the week assured a sufficient supply of goods.
She also discouraged “panic buying.”
“Panic buying contributes to [an] artificial shortage,” the regional official explained.
According to DTI, basic necessities include canned fish, processed milk, coffee, laundry soap, detergent, candles, loaf bread, salt, potable water in bottles and containers, and noodles, among other items.
Starting yesterday, the Antique provincial government sealed their borders for 14 days as a means of controlling movement in and out of the province amid ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
Governor Rhodora Cadiao noted, duly-licensed entrepreneurs; suppliers and sellers of food items, medicines, and other basic necessities; as well as hardware and construction materials are exempt from the restriction./WDJ
