The Negros Occidental provincial government appealed for cooperation amid ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
“These measures are not just for us but for all,” explained provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz III. “Police and the military have issued executive orders, hopefully, they will implement [them] without any partiality and [are] fair [in] the protection of all the people of Negros Occidental.”
“All corporations have corporate social responsibility,” he added. “It’s now time to prioritize something other than health; it’s time to prioritize our health and safety and the lives of our people.”
Diaz emphasized the importance of prevention.
“We cannot afford to put our people at risk by allowing them entry as they may be exposed or infected with the virus,” the provincial official stressed. “Our border with [Negros Oriental] is closed and people there will not be allowed to enter our side of the island, especially if they already have a positive case.”
He added, the Philippine Coast Guard assured they are screening passengers travelling from Iloilo’s Dumangas Port and ensuring they provide identification showing they are from Negros Occidental.
“Otherwise, they are not allowed to board,” Diaz affirmed.
Meanwhile, he addressed the local food supply, noting, “Goods are allowed going in and out of the province.”
“[The] delivery of essential goods will continue,” the provincial administrator added./DGB, WDJ
