The NBTC national finals, which were scheduled to take place from March 21 to 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, will instead be played from April 20 to 26. The event was pushed back due to ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, of Covid-19.
“We are committed to ensuring the health and safety of our attendees as it is our utmost priority,” said NBTC founder Eric Altamirano. “We have taken the difficult decision of postponing this year’s event to a later date.”
Bacolod Tay Tung High School is set to represent the Western Visayas in the tournament.
“More than the safety of the players from Covid-19, the postponement also gives us addition time to prepare as a team since we do not want to disappoint as [the] Western Visayas representatives,” said Tay Tung head coach Ronald Despi. “It is not everyday that we [get] to practice completely since examinations [are] fast approaching.”
“We really look forward to polish our plays further during the additional time given to us,” he added.
A total of 32 teams will compete in the tournament./ASC, WDJ
