The Department of Public Works and Highways-Iloilo (DPWH-Iloilo) 2nd District Engineering Office recently announced the completion of road improvement projects worth a total of P43.7 million.

District Engineer Sanny Boy Oropel said they completed a road widening in Pototan’s Barangay Lumbo, along with road reconstruction in the town’s Barangays Tumcon and Guinacas and in Mina’s Barangay Cabalabaguan.

“This widened road will provide easy access to basic services from Iloilo City to central and northern Iloilo, and reduce travel time from Pototan to Iloilo City,” he explained.

Oropel said travel time reduced from 45 minutes to 30.

“The better and wider road will also open opportunities for socioeconomic development in these towns as well as reduce the percentage of road hazards,” the DPWH official added. “ This will eventually improve the living conditions and diminish transport costs for people in the said towns.”

Meanwhile, he pointed out, the reconstruction project also included the installation of guardrails and reflectorized pavement markings.

“The reconstruction of this road section provides convenient and safe travel [for] approximately 280 motorists and commuters who travel daily,” Oropel explained. “This will also improve and facilitate the flow of goods from the province of Capiz to Iloilo City and vice versa.”/WDJ
