At least one person was killed, while two others were wounded, Thursday afternoon after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a gasoline station in San Carlos City’s Barangay 2. Authorities identified the fatality as 48-year-old Nole Mercado of the said area; while the wounded were husband and wife, Danilo and Rowena Dollentes, of Canlaon City’s Barangay Mabigo.
Based on investigations by San Carlos City police, Mercado was shopping at a fruit stand located in the gasoline station when unidentified gunmen aboard a motorcycle opened fire.
During the incident, the gunmen struck the Dollentes pair who were eating inside a restaurant near the fruit stand.
The victims were immediately rushed to the city’s district hospital for treatment but Mercado was declared dead-on-arrival by hospital staff. As for the couple, the husband is currently in critical condition while his wife is reported to be in stable condition.
San Carlos City police believe Mercado was the primary target as background checks revealed the deceased was considered a “high-value drug target” by the city police force.
