Ongoing concerns surrounding the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, have resulted in the cancellation of various sporting events across the country. Yesterday, the PBA announced they would be suspending the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup and PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup indefinitely while the UAAP also canceled men’s and women’s volleyball games until Tuesday, March 17.
Meanwhile, the NCAA is currently deciding whether they will also suspend the ongoing season.
Additionally, after initially scheduled to run from February 15 to 22 in Makato, Aklan and later moved to March 21 to 28, the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet was postponed anew.
“In light of recent developments [with] Covid-19, DepEd (Department of Education) is suspending all scheduled national and regional events involving students from different localities, such as the Palarong Pambansa regional meets, until further notice,” stated DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones.
The WVRAA Meet serves as a qualifier for the annual Palarong Pambansa.
Meanwhile, Marikina City earlier withdrew from hosting this year’s Palarong Pambansa after confirming a coronavirus case in the locality./ASC, WDJ
