Pinoy boxer advances to qualifier finals

Eumir Marcial of Zamboanga City, who recently earned a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics, advanced to the finals of the Asia/Oceania Olympic boxing qualifying tournament at the Prince Hamzah Hall in Amman, Jordan after scoring a 4-1 win over Indian fighter Ashish Kumar.
The Pinoy boxer was aggressive in the opening round but his opponent managed to land a jab in the following round. In the third, the Zamboanga City native unloaded a massive shot and earned a standing count.
He next faces Abilkhan Amankul of Kazakhstan in the championship round.
Meanwhile, two other Filipino fighters are still in contention for Olympic bids with Carlo Paalam taking on Kazakh boxer Saken Bibossinov in the men’s flyweight semifinals and Irish Magno facing Tajikistan’s Sumaiya Qosimov in the women’s flyweight semifinals./ASC, WDJ
