Provincial official: Preparations

remain underway

By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

After Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson recently revealed he would be meeting with local mayors to discuss the possible cancellation of this year’s Panaad sa Negros Festival amid the ongoing local spread of the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, newly-appointed provincial tourism officer, Dr. Jennylind Cordero, affirmed festival preparations remain underway, adding, they are about 80 percent complete with procurement already processed.
“If there is any announcement with regard to the threat of Covid-19, then, we will wait for the orders of the governor and the provincial board,” she said.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said he will leave the decision on the festival’s status with the governor.
In a radio interview with Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, he advised local mayors to cancel their local activities if necessary.
This year’s Panaad sa Negros Festival is scheduled to take place from April 20 to 26./DGB, WDJ
