The University of Santo Tomas (UST) opened the 82nd UAAP men’s football season with a 1-0 win over National University (NU) yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila. Stephen Marasigan, who was brought on as a substitute, scored the decisive goal in the 81st minute.
Following the goal, NU scrambled for an equalizer but striker Angelo Paring’s attempt struck the side of the net.
Towards the end of the match, a commotion broke out between the two sides. NU’s Bryan Ybanez tried to secure a draw but keeper Ralph Logronio made the save.
“At least kahit papano nakakuha kami ng 1-0, kahit tight siya, kailangan namin i-organize ulit yung team and then questionable talaga dun ‘yung match fitness (At least we managed to salvage a 1-0 win but, since it was so tight, we need to reorganize our team; plus, our match fitness is questionable),” said UST head coach Marjo Allado. “Hopefully, this Sunday, against Ateneo de Manila University, it will be much better.”/ASC, WDJ
