Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) director, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, plans to transfer obese law enforcement officers to Camp Alfredo Montelibano in Bacolod City’s Barangay Estefania. The NOPPO official said he wants obese officers at headquarters, where their food can be monitored along with their exercise routine.
In response to a viral video showing Baleros encouraging an overweight police officer to exercise in front of him, he said the police officer in the video is not an “erring cop” and called him a good police officer. He added, the law enforcement official has a side job as a chef and believes the second job may have been the source of the weight gain.
Earlier, PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, ordered police directors across the region to submit a list of officers who are considered obese and overweight and encouraged them to exercise in order to meet the order made by PNP chief, Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa.
Police personnel must attain a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9, which, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is normal range.
“Obese and overweight police officers who fail to meet the standard BMI will be denied schooling and will not be promoted,” the regional director explained in his earlier statement./DGB, WDJ
