National University (NU) pulled off a 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13 over the University of Santo Tomas (UST) yesterday in the 82nd UAAP women’s volleyball season at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Margot Mutshima tallied 23 points on 20 attacks, along with three service aces, for NU; while Ivy Lacsina contributed 19 points; and Risa Sato chipped in 17.
Down by two sets to one and behind 13-10 in the fourth, Lacsinsa and Sato led NU to a fifth set, where they got off to an early lead following errors committed by UST. Mutshima and Lacsina then extended the lead to 14-11 and, following back-to-back NU errors, the latter closed the match with an attack.
Meanwhile, Ejiya Laure finished with 20 points for UST, rookie middle blocker Imee Hernandez added 18, and Ennajie Laure contributed 17.
On the men’s side, NU scored a 27-25, 23-25, 25-19, 27-25 win over UST with Nico Almendras delivering a double-double on 20 points and 14 excellent receptions, while Ed Camposano added 19 markers./ASC, WDJ
