Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia insisted city officials will enforce the law when it comes to barangay officials who fail to implement the “no segregation, no collection” policy, which becomes effective on April 1.
“We wish we will not go to that but, if need be, we will make it an [example],” the mayor said. “If it becomes necessary, we wish it will not happen but, if we are forced to do it, maybe we have to sanction.”
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, who heads the Solid Waste Action Team, said barangay captains in the city were earlier reminded by representatives from the Environment Management Board that they could face violations for non-compliance with the policy.
He added, they will also review the “environment code” in order to penalize non-compliant households./DGB, WDJ
