The mother of the suspect involved in a Grade 10 student’s murder earlier this week in Bacolod City’s Barangay Sum-ag claimed the victim had been bullying the assailant’s son. In an interview with TV Patrol-Negros, Leny Carmelotes, the mother of 27-year-old Ray Jan Carmelotes, claimed the assailant’s son suffers from mental illness and was bullied by the victim, 16-year-old Alexis Genise, Jr., along with his friends.
She also denied her son was using illegal drugs despite the suspect earlier admitting to using shabu prior to the attack.
In response, the victim’s older brother, Arlex, slammed the mother’s statements and said it was Carmelotes who was the bully and said the suspect owed money to his sibling.
Meanwhile, Police Station 9 (PS9) commander, Police Lt. Jonito Pastrana, announced murder charges have already been filed against the assailant.
In addition, a background check on the suspect further confirmed the drug allegations as he had been previously arrested on drug-related charges, as well as illegal gambling.
Pastrana added, they are now awaiting the suspect’s commitment order where he will be immediately transferred to a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility.
Last Wednesday, Carmelotes stabbed Genise outside a maritime school at Purok San Sebastian.
The suspect was immediately arrested by patrolling police and security personnel from the school, while the victim was rushed to the South Bacolod General Hospital after sustaining seven stab wounds across his body, three of which were critical as he was struck in the lungs, liver, and neck.
Genise eventually succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment./DGB, WDJ
