Aston Palicte of Bago City returns to the ring this weekend, Saturday, February 29, when he faces Jonathan Francisco in an eight-round fight at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City. The Negrense fighter is coming off two consecutive losses, falling via unanimous decision to Filipino boxer Renz Rosia and losing a World Boxing Organization title fight to Kazuto Ioka of Japan.
“Hindi ko naman sinasabi na masaya ako na natalo ako, pero malaking tulong ito sa akin (I never said I was happy to lose but they did help me),” Palicte told online publication RealFight PH. “Nakita ko kung ano ‘yung mga kulang ko, kung ano ‘yung mga mali ko (I saw where I was deficient and what I am doing wrong).”
“‘Yung talo, nanjan lang (If you lose, you lose),” he added. “Kelangan mo lang talagang tanggapin at matuto para sa mga susunod na laban (You have to really accept it and learn before your next fight).”
Palicte enters the fight with a 25-4-1 win-loss-draw record, including 21 stoppage wins; while his opponent carries a 10-14-1 slate, including four stoppage victories.
Meanwhile, in the undercard, Bacolod City native Rolando Servania will be looking to extend his 10-fight unbeaten streak against Reymond Empic of Cebu.
The Bacolodnon fighter captured the World Boxing Council-Asian Boxing Council youth super bantamweight belt last September following a one-round knockout victory over Jerry Pabila./ASC, WDJ
