Suspect attempts to escape detention facility
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

The family of a Grade 10 student who was stabbed and killed earlier this week in Bacolod City’s Barangay Sum-ag is determined to file murder charges against the suspect. In an interview with RMN DYHB-Bacolod yesterday morning, the victim’s grandmother, 63-year-old Myrna Tuario, said her family was “deeply devastated” over the loss of her grandson, whom authorities have now identified as 16-year-old Alexis Genise, Jr.
Tuario described Genise as a “friendly individual” and said he did not have any enemies. She also noted, the victim preferred to stay home on weekends instead of hanging out with friends.
Based on the latest report from the Bacolod City Police Office, the victim passed away around 4:00 p.m. at the South Bacolod General Hospital after sustaining a total of seven stab wounds across his body, three of which were critical as he was stabbed in the lungs, liver, and neck.
Meanwhile, the suspect, 27-year-old Ray Jan Carmelotes, attempted to escape from the Police Station 9 (PS9) detention facility last night; however, the escape was thwarted and, once back in his cell, authorities were forced to cuff his hands.
In addition, the suspect was declared a “high-risk inmate.”
Last Wednesday, Carmelotes stabbed Genise outside a maritime school at Purok San Sebastian. When interviewed by local media inside the PS9 detention facility, he was unable to respond clearly to questions and claimed he was “bothered.” However, when asked if he was using illegal drugs, the suspect admitted to using shabu.
The suspect was believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs during the attack./DGB, WDJ
