After the Paraw Regatta Festival, which was originally scheduled from February 23 to March 1, was postponed, with Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas projecting, “We could probably have it in March,” the annual event will now be held in April. Following a meeting between the mayor and the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI), the event will run from April 1 to 5.
The festival was initially canceled due to the ongoing threat from the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
“The postponement is for everyone’s safety,” the mayor stated.
To date, there have been no confirmed Covid-19 cases in Iloilo City.
As of yesterday, Department of Health-Region VI director, Dr. Marlyn Convocar, said the cumulative number of patients under investigation across the Western Visayas is 38.
The annual event, which is considered the “old traditional craft event in Asia,” is set to celebrate its 48th year.
It is also the largest sailing event in the Philippines./WDJ
