San Miguel Beermen point guard Terrence Romeo sustained an ankle injury last week during their 81-79 loss to the Alaska Aces in the Phoenix Super Basketball Tournament at the Upper Deck in Pasig City.
The loss is the latest in a series of injuries for San Miguel with June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter both sidelined ahead of the upcoming 2020 PBA Philippine Cup, which begins in two weeks.
Romeo’s injury occurred after tripped over exercise equipment situated along the baseline.
“Natapakan ko ‘yung parang bike na bakal; pagstep ko, may tumunog (I tripped over a steel bike; when I took a step, there was a sound),” he explained.
Beermen head coach Leo Austria acknowledged the current state of his team.
“Talagang pilay na pilay ‘yung team namin (Our team is really crippled),” the coach explained. “We have no Marcio and we have no Terrence.”
“Alam natin na they are the key players (We know they are the key players),” he added. “This season will really be tough for us.”/ASC, WDJ
