After Bacolod City Police Office director, Police Colonel Henry Biñas, earlier admitted to encountering difficulties in trying to investigate recent shootings in the city, Police Station 4 (PS4) investigators said they are having a “hard time” finding witnesses to the recent murder of Police Patrolman Eric Alcosaba, a former member of Police Station 7 who was  “absent without leave,” or AWOL.
PS4 commander, Police Major Reynante Jomocan, said nobody appears willing to testify or share information, which could identify the suspects behind the murder, along with a possible motive. He noted, while they managed to recover footage captured by closed-circuit television cameras near the crime scene, it only showed the suspects’ vehicle escaping.
However, the law enforcement official said they managed to acquire the vehicle’s plate number and are now verifying the registration with the Land Transportation Office.
Additionally, the two mobile phones recovered from Alcosaba’s remains are being examined by forensic specialists while his family are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Earlier this month, Alcosaba was gunned down along Circumferential Avenue in Bacolod City’s Barangay Villamonte.
According to eyewitness accounts, the former police official parked his pick-up truck in front of a fastfood chain when four gunmen aboard an all-purpose utility vehicle opened fire.
The officer tried fleeing on foot but was shot multiple times.
One of the gunmen then approached the victim and shot him in the head.
A commuter aboard a nearby jeepney captured a portion of the incident on video, recording the second gunman looking into Alcosaba’s vehicle while holding what appeared to be an assault rifle./DGB, WDJ
