Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Police General Archie Gamboa, said he was “not happy” with the recent press conference held by Police Lt. Colonel Jovie Espenido in Bacolod City earlier this week. The law enforcement official explained, Espenido, along with the other 357 police officers included on the drugs watchlist, were ordered to remain silent on the matter.
Gamboa said he will deal with Espenido internally.
He added, the former Bacolod City Police Officer official will be investigated for violating the gag order.
During his press conference last Wednesday, Espenido said he suspects an “influential politician” may be responsible for his inclusion on the reported drugs watchlist. The law enforcement official said it is “impossible” for another police officer to forward his name because they share the same mission of eliminating illegal drug activities in the country.
“I cannot really pinpoint but one thing I can tell you—greedy, a greedy kind of person,” he said.
Meanwhile, Espenido also apologized to Gamboa and other PNP officials, pointing out, they really need to understand his current situation.
The police official added, he did not intend to put the PNP in a “bad light” when he decided to face the media.
Espenido is currently undergoing adjudication processes and is still attached to Police Regional Office-6./DGB, WDJ
