Acebuche: 30 have been fined since last Monday

Following the issuance of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular No. 2020-033, which provides guidelines on implementing the presidential directive on clearing roads of illegal obstructions, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) announced they have intensified their campaign against illegal parking.
BTAO head, Police Lt. Colonel Luisito Acebuche, said the campaign began last Monday and they have since issued tickets against 30 vehicles either illegally parked or obstructing roads in Barangays 1, 35, Bata, and Alijis.
The police official said they have already called on the concerned barangays to be more observant of illegal parking and called on the Sangguniang Panlungsod to raise the penalty for illegal parking. The current fee is P100.
Meanwhile DILG-Bacolod City Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag said the latest circular informs local governments, especially barangays, that they were given 75 calendar days, from February 16 to April 30, to implement guidelines of the memorandum.
She added, illegal parking remains a problem in Bacolod City.
Last year, Acebuche discussed the preliminary findings of a study by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority that recommended prohibiting double parking, solving the issue of jaywalking, and removing roundabouts from the Shopping area and in Barangay Villamonte.
In addition, the traffic authority pointed out how five out of the city’s 36 intersections were equipped with traffic signals./DGB, WDJ
