Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director, Police Colonel Henry Biñas, yesterday said scene of the crime operatives recovered an envelope containing several pictures inside the vehicle of slain Police Patrolman Eric Alcosaba, a former member of Police Station 7 (PS7) who was “absent without leave,” or AWOL. According to the law enforcement official, the latest investigation revealed the deceased police officer had knowledge of a “high-profile case” that happened outside of Bacolod City.
Biñas said the pictures showed a lawyer and two former BCPO members, one of whom is still in active service. He added, they have since invited the three individuals in order to determine why Alcosaba had pictures of the three individuals.
Meanwhile, the BCPO chief said the quality of closed-circuit television camera footage from the crime scene was poor. However, he noted, they are coordinating with the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office as there is a camera that may have captured the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
Biñas added, prior to being assigned to PS7, Alcosaba previously served in the City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, the precursor to the City Drug Enforcement Unit. He also pointed out, following the revelations of slain drug group bagman Ricky Serenio, the slain police officer was assigned to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao but did not take up the new post.
Last Saturday, Alcosaba was gunned down along Circumferential Avenue in Bacolod City’s Barangay Villamonte.
According to eyewitness accounts, the former police official parked his pick-up truck in front of a fastfood chain when four gunmen aboard an all-purpose utility vehicle opened fire.
The officer tried fleeing on foot but was shot multiple times.
One of the gunmen then approached the victim and shot him in the head.
A commuter aboard a nearby jeepney captured a portion of the incident on video, recording the second gunman looking into Alcosaba’s vehicle while holding what appeared to be an assault rifle.
The gunmen then boarded their getaway vehicle and escaped southward along the Circumferential Road./DGB, WDJ
