After earlier postponing the Paraw Regatta Festival, which was originally scheduled to take place in Iloilo City from February 23 to March 1, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced all “big events” in the city will be postponed until next month due to the ongoing threat from the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19.
“There will be no big events for the safety of residents and children, especially those susceptible,” the mayor explained. “I hope people will understand we are doing this as a precautionary measure.”
He noted, the decision was made following consultations with health officials and organizers.
Treñas earlier said the Paraw Regatta Festival may still happen in March.
“We could probably have it in March if the situation will be better,” he said. “We will make the decision when the time comes.”
The annual event, which is considered the “old traditional craft event in Asia,” is set to celebrate its 48th year./WDJ
