The Negros Oriental provincial government yesterday announced two new patients under investigation for the coronavirus disease, or Covid-19, were admitted to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City. According to Provincial Public Information Officer Bimbo Miraflor, the couple is comprised of a Belgian national and his Filipina wife who recently visited Wuhan, China, the city where the virus originated.
He noted, the pair arrived in the Philippines on January 31 and traveled to Bohol and Siquijor before visiting Dumaguete City.
The two are currently confined at the provincial hospital after exhibiting “flu-like” symptoms.
Medical staff have already taken swab tests and samples were sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Metro Manila.
Health officials in Negros Oriental recently cleared 65 people who were placed on a 14-day quarantine; 40 of whom had come in close-contact with the Chinese couple who earlier tested positive for Covid-19.
The provincial government also provided P5,000 for the affected individuals as financial support./DGB, WDJ
